Samantha Leriger De La Plante - Northern Flicker - Put a Bird on it
My name is Samantha, my pronouns are she/her, and I am a settler living in Mohkinstsis on Treaty 7 and Calgary Elbow Métis territories. A few years ago I started noticing Northern Flickers visiting my backyard. Although I grew up here, I wasn't familiar with the species, but I was instantly enamored. I find flciker's woodpecker patterning combined with their unique behaviours, such as bopping along the ground looking for and lapping up insects with their long tongues, very charming. I am moved by the land and my relations, including local plants and birds, and I try to show respect by learning their names and more about their ways of being.
