Leechuts - Flower Power 2025

$50.00

I find the most common things to be the most beautiful - something about looking closely at a tree you walk by all the time or the weeds that grow from under concrete feels special when you give them your full awareness. The Common Dandelion was everywhere growing up, like any other kid I used to snap them off their stems and blow the white fluff into the wind. When I learned that the yellow and white dandelions were two phases of the same flower, I was pleasantly surprised. Something about the transformation from phase to phase, then dying with what's left of you being carried by the wind is kind of poetic, like the spreading of ashes. It's a reflection of the phases of life we go through until we eventually die, and observing how resiliently and gracefully the dandelion moves through it's cycle beautiful to me.

Leetia Lyons is an independent illustrator and designer based in Calgary with a Bachelor of Design from AuArts. Her work is often influenced by her heritage, inspired by Japanese aesthetics and culture. She draws from her traditional illustration education and graphic design knowledge in her art practice, playing with a juxtaposition of the two visual genres, with a focus on themes regarding the human condition and the relationship with oneself & everything around us.
