The core of Joel's work interrogates contemporary evangelical theology, establishing an aesthetic critique of issues such as sin and salvation, as well as the human construction of God. Held in tension with a theological paradigm, Joel's work attempts to negotiate a space between mental constructions of perfection and a perceived reality of disarray. The overt use of text of in Joel's work functions as a visual pun on the pictographic nature of typography (and the multitudinous interpretations therein) and dubious, yet ubiquitous, assertions of scriptural inspiration. Joel is currently engaged in 2nd year studies for his MCS in theology and the arts at Regent College
